![]() Chocolate chip cookie with Stone Road Cabernet SauvignonĪll were utterly delicious, and it was amazing to see how the shiraz really enhanced the spiciness in the ginger cookie, and the merlot brought out those buttery notes in the oatmeal cookie. In fact, the assistant F & B manager Luke who took us through the pairing, taught us some facts we didn’t know, AND may have converted me to a Merlot drinker (I love my reds as a whole, but I usually gravitate towards Shiraz). Each pairing was so well thought out, and the wines and cookies were all delicious. We’ve attended a macaron and wine pairing at Granny Mouse before, but I have to say that this cookie pairing really surpassed the expectations we had for it. ![]() We checked into our room (one of the Deluxe Suites, and the same one we’ve stayed in 2 of our previous 3 visits, so we felt all mushy), dropped our bags off and freshened up, before heading out to the Granny Mouse Cellar for a cookie and wine pairing. In fact – we loved the light fixtures so much, that I’m keeping that style in mind for above our kitchen island in our new home! This was one of our favourite spots at the hotel previously, and once again, they’ve nailed it with their gentle upgrade – while it looks completely new and the bar itself has been re-shaped and the room opened up, that cozy country bar feeling remains. The Mouse & Lion bar has also had a facelift. The inside of the Bistro has been updated too, I love the slices of wood on the walls (all from trees on the Granny Mouse property too).Īll of the railing around the hotel pool has also been updated to glass now, which really opens the area up and makes it look much bigger. I was so impressed! Hubs and I were so concerned, as we loved the country charm that Granny Mouse is so famous for – yet they’ve taken what was there, updated it so that is new and modern, yet that wonderful country feeling that Granny Mouse has always left you with (cozy, charming, comfy) is still there. The furniture has been updated completely and the whole feeling is just open and airy and light. The Bistro restaurant used to be covered with a flat, thin roof, but now it has a stunning a-frame roof and doors, all in glass. Even though we often visit the Midlands for a day here and there, we have purposely avoided Granny Mouse, so that on this specific trip we’d have a real first impression of the new look! So, Hubby and I hit the road for a night away in the Midlands this month, to check out the work that had been done. However, since then they’ve been doing some fabulous renovations, and have upgraded more than one area of the hotel. We stayed at Granny Mouse in June of 2016, and we reviewed the beautiful hotel HERE. It was our first getaway as a couple, our first spot to stay when we were engaged, and it was where I took my Hubs for his birthday (our first married one). ![]() Granny Mouse is one of our favourite places in the world – we have a real sentimental connection to it. ![]()
